La fuente que originariamente se instaló en esta zona fue colocada en 1604 en sitio próximo a esta Puerta, posteriormente, después del año de 1755 cuando se reedificó la zona, la fuente fue dispuesta cerca de Puerta en el muro por la parte inferior. En 1813 fue trasladada a una plazuela cercana (CASAS DEZA, 1836) y en 1871 la llevaron a la plazuela de los Aladreros; de modo que esta fuente parece condenada a andar siempre de paseo. (RAMÍREZ DE ARELLANO, 1995: 316).
Originariamente, la fuente de Puerta de Gallegos estaba abastecida por las Aguas del Cabildo.
No obstante esta zona fue rica en infraestructuras hidráulicas tanto en época romana como islámica para abastecer a este sector de la ciudad de agua.
Circular fountain with lower part of the pond adorned with square section paving stones arranged in a grid. A large rounded edge finishes it off. In the center, a metal structure with the shape of use on a mosaic hexagon, projects the water at half height through two jets. On the inner perimeter of the pond, a series of jets project the water in arches that pour into the central metal structure. It is paired with the fountain on the other side of Calle Concepción. Due to its shape, this fountain together with its adjacent twin is popularly called Las Paelleras.
