Fuente de la Fuenseca
Historical Data

Description

It consists of two parts, the pillar and the front that decorates it. The pillar has a rectangular plan of 4 m. long by 1.50 wide and is made up of 5 ashlars of 25 cm. thick, interlocked with 30 cm iron brackets. The height of the pillar differs from one end to the other, oscillating between 53 and 62 cm., To save the unevenness of the terrain. The only detail to highlight in it is a 5 cm projection. in its lower zone; a drain in the front parapet and a recess on the left edge of 25 cm. wide with a brick base, perhaps as an overflow. The floor of the pillar is made up of slabs of baked clay and, coinciding with the pipes, four support stones are arranged for the containers for collecting water.
The front of the fountain is a relief whose thickness ranges up to 15 cm. A rectilinear central body of 1.60 m. wide by 1 m. high, topped by a trilobed attic (70 cm. high), it develops its edges like curved ailerons that join side pillars topped by spiers domed at their bases (1.25 m. high).
The central body is interrupted in its center by an inlaid plate (70 x 40 cm.) With the Cordoba coat of arms carved in white marble under which reads an inscription carved on the stone "THIS FOUNTAIN IS TRANSFERRED FROM THE MIDDLE OF THIS SQUARE TO THIS SITE IN 1808 ". Under it, a plate of the same gray stone, 1.50 m. wide by 67 cm. high, it is attached to the pediment at whose ends half spheres of 25 cm. in diameter carry two of the four pipes that the fountain has. The pipes are made of 7 cm bronze. in diameter and 15 in length, they are 1 m. away from each other, one being located on each pillar, and the other two on the aforementioned plate. The total height of the complex without counting the S. Rafael, is almost 3 m
