Description

This square was always equipped with a public fountain, however, during the 20th century it lost this infrastructure due to the reforms of said square.
Ramírez de Arellano tells us that the fountain that is currently located in the Plaza de la Paja must have been the original pylon of this square and that it was replaced by another one called “de la romana” of which no data is preserved. Later, the fountain that today is located in the Plaza de l Vizconde de Miranda was installed.
As described in Paseos por Córdoba, the fountain, at least in 1624, was located near the façade of the prison (today Mercado de Abastos), no more than 15 or 20 yards of space between them.
López Amo tells us about a fountain located in the old prison and that in its time was the felt and hat factory of Mr. Sánchez Peña (today Mercado de Abastos)
